Reading Matters - Feb. 28
Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation Phone-a-Thon to raise funds for e-books
On February 28, the Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation will kick off its annual Phone-a-Thon to support literacy in the district. High school students will be calling parents and community members requesting donations to purchase eBooks for the enhancement of the district-wide eLibrary. The eLibrary is available to students at every school and allows 24/7 access to pleasure reading material, research books, and classroom reading assignments at no cost to students.
EBooks are also a good financial investment. One of our elementary schools recently purchased a hard copy of the book, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School" for $5.99 and placed it in the school library. The book was checked out 23 times, but then it was lost and is no longer available for checkout. At the same time, the school purchased an eBook of the same title for $8.00. It has been checked out 587 times, remains in perfect condition, and is available for more students to enjoy.
If you would like to donate to the Phone-a-Thon, visit the GBEF website at gbefkids.org
